Fine Arts
Below is a collection of art pieces that I have completed throughout my time as an artist. They focus the body as the center of my quest to develop an understanding of its proportion across media. Its curves and edges and its subtle shifts with movement make the body one of the most complex subject matters.
Hands & Feet
I began with a simple exploration of hands and feet. To the right is a collection of hand-carved wood block prints of hands, and below is a drawing of a foot. I experimented with line thickness to provide structural hints and depth.
The Body
Expanding my view, I worked to master the body as a whole. I took time to focus on individual muscles and bones to better understand how the body functions in its entirety. In art class, we sketched nude models to bring our study to life, from the inside of the body outward.
Portraiture
Incorporating faces into my artistic pathway has been incredibly valuable in my practice. Entire stories are told through the face — emotions large and small, identity, and depth through subtlety. Through drawing my subjects and myself, I grasped a unique intimacy with their features. Below is a series of my work with portraiture, starting with headshots and slowly incorporating more of the body with greater detail.
