Surfboard Designs
Beyond my two dimensional art, designing surfboards is another way that I express myself artistically. Throughout college, I designed and carved surfboards, learning the process by myself through youtube videos (and lots trial and error). I learned which shapes and contours best matched the boards’ purposes. In my surfboards, I also used graphic design and color to make them unique and my own.

My first surfboard exposes remnants of its process. While this board is functional, I learned a lot from it. I chose a more complicated design, which challenged me to learn more about the process through lots of problem-solving. This first board kickstarted my fascination with playing with different board designs and shapes to cater to a range of purposes.

For my second surfboard, I decided to bring myself back to the basics. No color, no time intensive shape, just a simple board that serves its function. In the same way that my figure drawings began with the most foundational skeleton, I used this board to study the core of design.

My most recent surfboard is a reflection of my self-education in board design. Using my first and second boards and others between then and now to hone my skill, my latest surfboard combines a clean foundation with tactical and more complicated design choices. Through this process, I have sold a couple of boards to friends and other interested parties.
